Christmas Applesauce

After I picked up Grant from preschool today, we kept hearing him say "Christmas Applesauce."  Over and over.  He was whispering it to his toys.  He was running around the house yelling it.  He was talking about it while I changed his diaper.  I was so confused.  So while I had him pinned for the diaper change, I asked him if he had Christmas Applesauce at preschool (mind you, I pack his snack and lunch, so they don't usually provide food).  His answer (diaperless at this point): "Yes, I show you."  Having no idea what Christmas Applesauce was, I convinced him to wait until the diaper change was over, and then he proceeded to do this (originally on the floor, but I had him redo it for a picture and he chose the end table for the photo shoot), with a look of such pride on his face that I couldn't help but laugh:

So in case you're not familiar with the latest lingo, Grant is actually demonstrating "Criss Cross Applesauce," the politically correct term for what we used to call sitting "Indian Style," and what Grant is determined to call "Christmas Applesauce" no matter what we say.  And for the record, Yo Gabba Gabba is still Yo Yo Gabba in his book.  

Slime and Snails and Puppy Dog Tails

I didn't know anything could top pajamas with animals on the feet for me when it comes to cuteness factor, but it turns out that watching Hayes army crawl in this new outfit from Migi with the puppy dog tail takes the cake.  Until he starts walking, I may have to sew puppy dog tails on all of his outfits.

Seven Months for Hayes!

While I was in Texas, Hayes celebrated turning seven months with his grandmother Ceci and great aunt Hat.  They had the challenging task (as if just keeping up with Grant and Hayes isn't challenging enough) of doing the seven month photo shoot with a very mobile and surprisingly fast baby.  Here are a few of my favorites from the big day:

My Dad

I like doing this little blog because it helps me remember fun milestones with the boys and keep our friends and family updated since we can't all live in the same place.  I usually keep it light & fun, but  unfortunately not all significant milestones are light and fun, and that's where this one comes in.  It's such a big deal and it's left such a big hole in my heart that I can't not mention it, but it's also still too fresh for me to write anything that really does it justice.  Though really, even in another 10 or 20 years, I'm pretty sure this engineer hasn't got the writing skills to properly write up something about my dad and how awesome he was...but if I did, it'd probably be a spreadsheet, and he'd be proud. 

So this is just to say that on September 14, 2011, exactly ten years to the day after I lost my Papaw (my mom's dad), I lost my dad (Grant's and Hayes' Papaw) after his nearly seven year battle with GIST cancer.  A girl couldn't ask for a better dad, and I'll always love and miss him.
